My tree frog..

penguix Sep 01, 2004 08:38 AM

Ive had him about 3 weeks and he's been eating quite well and otherwise seems quite healthy. But when i got him he was the bright green that you usually see tree frogs...now he is a very dark color...brownish almost, and he seems to chill high up on the tank stuck to the roof of the tank...can you guys give me any info why this may be happenening and if it is normal.

Thanks for your help

Do you use an undertank heater or a lamp? color change isnt always a problem but may be a sign of stress. Darker colors may indicate lack of heat but also might be nothing of concern. These are Green Tree Frogs I assume?

yeah he is a green tree frog, i don't use a underpad heater but i have lights on him and its always quite warm in his tank. I dunno he seems to be eating fine and whatnot,i just put new substrate in his tank, do you think that could affect anything.

Hey!

I have had several green tree frogs before, and their colors can vary greatly. I had one guy who lived for several years, who would stay really dark green (almost black) whenever he was happy(feedings, etc), but would get really bright when upset (cage cleaning times). He stayed dark 98% of the time, and was completely healthy and happy. Once you have had your frog for a while, you will be able to determine what each color variation means your frog is feeling!

Hope this helps!
