fire belly in a vivarium?

mike17l Sep 01, 2004 12:59 PM

i have about a 30 gallon vivarium that i set up. i am putting about 6 green tree frogs, 2 green anols, and one rough green snake in it. one corner is sectioned off into a little pond with a waterfall. it is a little over a gallon in size. my question is, can i put a fire bellied toad in the pond area so that it can clean up any crickets that fall in the water? i have heard that they can be toxic, is this true? i am only planning on putting one fire belly in the vivarium so i wouldnt think that the toxin levels would be that high. any help would be appreciated.
thanks

OK first rough green snakes get 2-3 feet..... so as I predict your vivarium will go as stated: Green snake eats all your frogs/anoles, then your FBT gets eaten and spreads its toxins to your snake killing your whole vivarium off, I discourage the mixing of animals. Also bacteria not formally introduced to your other species may be introduced by mixing. If you really need to mix them leave out the snake and FBT.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Noo!!!

Here is my help: Do not even think of doing this!

Uh, I can't even begin to explain how stressfull keeping so many different species together wil be on the creatures...
FBTs in their are a nono. Even if it is just one. Besides, its from a different country (continent?).

Since I don't have the patience to write out every reason why you should not do this right now, I will give you a few links.

i agree and from experience. some of us learn the hard way and i mixed frogs and lizards in a 175 gal. including a fbt. u never wanna mix. my 200$ gargoyle gecko got all excited about crickets i was putting in and my FBT moved... well the gecko tried to swallow him but then spit him out... well thank god they are both fine today!( this was a while ago) i could have lost both of them this way. even if herps get along normally they are still animals and are unpredictable. not to mention the different needs of each species. i have all of my animals separated now in 5 different enclosures. and rule # 1 never do what you see the pet store do they always mix because of limited space.
