new frog

ksuvanto Sep 01, 2004 01:36 PM

I received a tomato frog in the mail yesterday and have yet to see him move his back legs. He was packed pretty tightly in the container he came in and I'm worried it damaged his legs. He has yet to sleep also. If he is paralyzed in his hind legs, what do I do????

Very strange. Have you tried putting it on the floor and provoking it a little bit, you know, so he runs from you? Is yours male or female. The females are always bigger and brighter. Tomato frogs are pretty tough frogs and simple pets provided you keep their tank clean, tomato's give off large deposits of solid waste and may attract gnats. I have 2, male and female, and they seem to heal well. My male had a sore nose from the rain chamber and it only took a couple weeks to heal up. Your tomato's legs may be stiff or it's feeling a little dormant. Sometimes, like after breeding efforts and perhaps shipping, tomato's like to rest for 3 days or so just burrying themselves and not eating much at all. If your tomato is "paralyzed" in his back legs it shouldn't affect it's eating habits too much since they are opportunity ambush hunters. As for sleep, if you are expecting it to just close it's eyes and sleep it doesn't happen like that. Tomato's sleep eyes open, maybe slightly closed to dim the light.
