Strange Grey???

Ciryluk Sep 01, 2004 01:57 PM

Can I have peoples opinions on this snake please? I got him as a Corn.. at the beginning of the year lol but he clearly is not a Corn after posting younger piccies of him on another forum he was identified as a Grey Rat Snake.. with no doubts.. as I first suspected.. he was much Greyer then. As he has grown and his colour has developed more his saddles on much of his body are more Red-Reddish Brown and his ground colour is very pink more so than I've seen on any other Grey! :S My question is do you think he's pure? or is he some particular colour phase or morph of Grey Rat?

Photo from a distance!

Closer photo!

Saddles close up!

Thanks,
Chez :D

It looks like a Grey Rat that might have been crosses with an Everglades Rat. You don't expect to see red on Grey Rats. Since the person who sold it to you told you that it was a Corn Snake, you will just never know. On the other hand, it is an interesting looking snake. It looks nice an healthy in your photos, and it is a Rat Snake. What more could you ask for?

Do you have a locality on that....or was he C/B?

I have seen Greys on rare occasions that looked similar to that (w/c). I have also caught Gray/yellow crosses from the Gulf hammock area (west central to north Florida that have had near that (what used to be called the Gulf Hammock rat in it's more stripped form).

Of course with the many many crosses that breeders have done for years if it's C/B it could be almost anything.
