$8,000 To Spend...

JohnZ Sep 01, 2004 01:59 PM

Hello, its been a while. Finally got settled in Florida and now i am in the market to buy 1 or 2 Balls. I got $8,000 just laying around and want to get something new for my self.

Can anyone recommend what would be good to get? I do have what is on my list below, so would either like to do more toward that or go completely different.

Please let me know your thoughts on how to best spend my money? Thanks... John

I could make a couple recommendations but it would depend on a couple things 1) the size of your normal females (doesn't sound right), and also the size of your het & albino females.

To me depending on those answers would easily determine which way I would go.

With all your females (If they are adults) I'd get an 02' 100% het male Lavender albino from Bob Clark. I believe he is letting them go for $7500 each. Lavender albino's are very popular and high in demand. Then again your dealing with possable hets. Spiders are in that range and would be a quick return. Depends really on what you want to get into. Dom, or Reccessive. Good luck with whatever you pick!

I somewhat agree with Rob. But, then again, with $8,000 and careful budgeting you could do quite a bit to even out your collection:

1.0 Albino = $2000
0.1 Orange Ghost = $2500
-------------------------
= $4500

Leaving you with a $3500 to play with. My numbers are based largely on current ads and posted website prices. They are an average of what I've seen. Obviously, by now you have made some contacts and from those you may be able to work out a deal or two and get better prices. I figure depending on the size of your current animals buying those above could help you produce some morphs faster without having to breed Homo. X Normal and then wait for the Hets. to come of age.

With the extra money, possibly invest in some Het female albinos or pieds. Just to better your chances and strengthen your bloodlines.

I figure work with what you have for now. In 2005 or 2006, when you've produced a few of each morph (at least) you'll have the funds to expand your collection with other visible morphs of your choosing. Branching out beyond what you currently have would result in more hets and fewer visible morphs.

Just my opinion.

Thank you for the advise. You make some really good points and figured out the near future. Thank you... John

co-doms are being produced like m and m's. Get into some recessive morphs like genetic stripe hets, more albinos, clowns, anything but co-doms. In the loing run youll see your investment turn out more than with co-dom.....
buy albinos if i were you. I would buy what ever you need to produce the biggest numbers.
In the long run even at 1,000ea youll be producing alot more than alot of other people.
and all you need to produce is 8 and you got your money back, that could be with only two het females, or three if numbers go your way.
I would expand the albino project to produce in the years to come 50-100 of them, hell if they do drop to 500ea which I highly doubt, do the math....
in my opinion, to many spiders, to many cinnamon pastels, i heard of two new lines being proven yesterday....stick with mass production of affordable morphs to the general public. You can sell 50 albinos at 1,000.00 over 50 spiders at 2,000.00 alot quicker.

I think you got a point. I do have my female Albino and she is about 1,000 grams and growing fast. Maybe a couple males would do the trick.

My normal females are all getting big, i think i got 4 over 1,500 grams with another 6 that are over 1,000 grams and 4 between 750 and 1,000 grams. Might be good to get a few more adult normal females...

OK, question, rececive, what morphs are in that catagory? Thanks...

I would go with an Axanthic Het for Albino male (snakekeeper.com). You would produce albino het axanthic, and double het for snows.

Not many snow hatched.
great idea.
I also think axanthics will be great when more snows are produced and other morph crosses.

Tracy Barker has some 100% hets for sale and I think these snakes will be very popular for many years. Very cool snakes.
Good luck,

I'd buy 2.2 Albinos. That way you'd have a total of 2.3; a good group. You could easily buy a male Spider too, or a male Pied or maybe even a male Caramel. Or, go out & get as many females, poss hets or hets of the things you have now, then next year get a visable male of the same morph.

There is so much out there. Personally, I LOVE the Pastel Ghosts, so I was thinking a nice looking Orange Ghost female to pair up with your Pastel Male. Not sure of the market prices, but maybe you could find a Female Pastel Het Ghost for that price. Albinos will always be a wise investment as I think the demand will always be high for them. Geez, I remember a year or two agao when you could've bought a Mojave for that price. Now, you have to pay 4-5 times that for one. Lucky dogs I say that got in on it early. I also think that the True Ghost(Axanthic Ghost) project would be an awesome thing to get into. I don't believe I've see one of those yet. Have they been prouced by anyone? I know True Ghost Boas are breathtaking. *sigh* I wish I had $8000 laying around lol. Good Luck with whatever you decide.
