Crested Gecko Genetics (more)

AnthonyCaponetto Sep 01, 2004 02:23 PM

I just typed a marathon post with pictures and all, regarding the genetics of Crested Gecko color and pattern variations and I figured a few people might find it interesting, so I'm bringing this up to the top.

I am very interested to hear everyone else's thoughts, experiences, etc.

That is a very interesting post, thanks for sharing. Perhaps you could add that info to your website, and possibly the result of future studies.

a little off topic, but what kind of bark is that you use in the enclosure? you have one picture of a crested down on the bottom of the tank on some bark and it looks very nice, where could i get some?

It was cork bark and cypress mulch...in a cage that I use only for pictures. I don't actually keep them on that.

Everything in your post confirms my observations and is the method I use to "predict" the outcome of a pairing. While the exact combination of genitic traits that will be exhibited by the offspring is often a suprise (the cool part about cresteds)
3/4 of the time an obvious blend of the parents traits are apparent. The other 25% of the time recessive traits are diplayed.
So my point/question is in my experince a pair will produce offspring that display a similar combination of the parents traits a predictable /-/75% of the time. The remaining 25% of the time the offspring will be unique individuals displaying reccesive traits.
Does this compare with anybody elses experince?

No science here and no animals were hurt for the typing of this post
