Help! Lost corn!

DeepCold Sep 01, 2004 06:37 PM

So I was feeding my corn, in the downstairs bathroom (heating the pinky mouse in the sink) and it started eating. This usually takes him a long time, he is still young just over a year old. So I thought it wouldnt hurt to have a check with something on my computer, which was in the room right beside the bathroom. So me being me, with the memory of the golfish, I totally forget my snake was out of its tank. The next day im sitting on my computer when my mom walks in the room, and says "Why is the snake tank open?", and that is when I rememberd that I was feeding it last night. So I run into the bathroom, and, suprise suprise, IT'S GONE! I left the snake on the counter, and my guess is it dropped down to the floor (thats what happened last time, but I found it right away last time) and went somewhere. The setup is (in a basement) theres the bathroom door, straight across is my room, and beside that is my brothers room, easy access to my brothers room, where I found it last time, and it could go to my room, but it would either have to go through my brothers room (I heard they would prefer to travel alongside the wall) or just go across the floor. Also what I am afraid of is we made small holes in the wall to run cable TV and ethernet cables through, im afraid it might have gone into those holes and be stuck in the wall! I have no idea where it could be, anyone have an experience like this and know where it would try to hide? Its been 2 days now and im very worried, please help me.

first time for 6 weeks and we found her outside. The second time she was gone for 3 weeks and we found her in the bathroom under some laundry. She was very thirsty and going into a shed cycle so that may have been why she ended up in there. I dotn have any suggestions, just dont give up. They can squeeze into some very small spaces so can be very hard to find...But might show up just when you have given up hope...

It is almost impossible to know where the snake may have gone. He is almost certainly hiding somewhere (if he wasn't, you probably would have found him already). I haven't lost a snake yet, but the lost geckos I have had always just seem to pop up when I am not looking for them (i.e. running across a wall while I am trying to eat breakfast). There are a few tips for finding and/or trapping lost snakes, so search the forum and I'm sure you will get lots of suggestions.

You said that you lost the snake while you were feeding it. That means that leaving a mouse out for him will probably not attract him. What is his usual schedule for getting rid of the mouse he just ate? He is going to have to get rid of it one way or the other, and that might give you a clue to his location - let your nose be your guide. You can also sprinke powder around the edges of the walls and across doorways - if he crosses the path he will leave a mark that could let you at least know what room he is in.

Carefully, methodically, look everywhere. Under everything, behind everything, he's somewhere. he should turn up. Oh, and if you have a cat, search in the cat's new favorite room. It happened to me once, the cat was consantly in the laundry room after i lost my snake, and it ended up being in there.
Good luck, ~Dan

I do have a cat, although it is an outdoor cat and is outdoors alot of the time. It is only 1 year old would a full grown cat be able to catch it easy?

Some hints that will hopefully help out in the search. Put a pinky in a can and put it near a fridge or stove or tv, anywhere where it might be giving off some heat. And do it in a couple places. That way you will hear the can move and roll when she strikes for the pinky. Also put plastic bags along some of the baseboards, and you can hear the bag move if she is on the move. Somebody already mentioned the powder in the doorway idea, that is another good one. And good luck, they are the best hiders in the world. I tore my fridge apart twice, only to find her in there the third time.

Thanks for the tips everyone, as I said before the corn is still very small so instead of bags I used the powder (with the bags I doubt I would hear, I have younger brothers and they are always making noise) I put baby powder (hope that wont hurt anything?) around easily accessible places it might want to go, and in a few days I plan to put a couple pinkys in cans.(he just ate)

Again, thanks to everyone who posted here.

I lost three last year that were about 7 months at the time. One I found by luck in another room by a heat source. The other two I found in my shoes( guess they make a nice hide or they like the smell - LOL!) Good luck!

Snake found! I decided that I should take a break from searching, I thought he would be fine. So a friend came over and my snake was driven to the back of my mind. We are both sitting in my room, when all of a sudden I look across my room, and there is my snake staring right at me!

Hearing others finding their snakes days and days after loosing them makes me feel better should i ever have to go through an escape with Kula.
