Can Woma's lay two clutches in a season?

Compy82 Sep 01, 2004 07:21 PM

My female Woma just laid her first clutch of eggs about 1 1/2 months ago, and is now acting as if she is gravid again. If anyone can give me a little advice here, it would be much appreciated! Thanks a lot,

Matthew Wright

Is it possible that she retained any eggs?

It would be really cool to double clutch a python, but I don't think it has ever happened.

Pythons have been recorded to lay two clutches within one year. But they were usually tricked into it by extra early cycling. If my memory serves me correctly, It has been done with the largest and nearly the smallest of the pythons, Retics and Childrens/Spotted Pythons. SUrely it has been done with others as well. Honestly, it would not surprise me as it is well known that many species of pythons develop follicles many times a year, not just once as many folks tend to think. I would imagine that if the female has gained enough weight back, her body would allow her to do so again if the right environmental factors were present. Never underestimate Mother Nature!
