Heat Tape

tns2400 Sep 01, 2004 07:48 PM

Ok~
I am going to ask a couple of newbie questions so bear with me.
1~The heat tape. Is that basically the same kind you buy at any hardware store to keep your pipes from freezing in the winter? I'm from Buffalo, NY LOL
2~How would I put that into a rack system?
Any and all help here would be great!

First..i've never hat to heat my pipes, LOL soi dont know about that

the Heat tape that most people use is Flexwatt which can be found at www.beanfarm.com, it comes in strips, you have to purchase clips with it that lets the wireing touch the heat tape without it casing a fire, you could either do that..or use a soldering iron and melt the wiring onto the end sides, but that should be done when it is not plugged in, the wiring im taling about is regular extention corms with the exta sockets cut off and the wiring split down the middle so that there are two seperate peices, the heat tape is applied to the rack by placing it at the back and running it through the sides of the rack, its stickey hence the name tape..so it holds..one very important point..always make sure you have a thermostat hooked up to the heat tape to ensure the right temps, heat tape gets very hot and without a thermostat it will kill your geckos or even cause a small fire, if you need any more info please email me ay hazerdhacker@aol.com
