Ohio Herpers Keeping Native Herps

gophersnake13 Sep 01, 2004 08:12 PM

It is actually illegal to own a native herp without the proper permit. I just learned this when checking for fishing licence info. Wow. Slinks to wildlife office pretending he just caught a million frogs just yesterday.

The short answer is yes. A fishing license is needed to harvest game animals such as frogs and snapping turtles but a separate license is needed for herps native to Ohio whether they are from Ohio or from out of state.

And then there's Pit Tagging.............

Ohio basically sucks big time regarding keeping native herps.

Well when you consider that a game commissioner won't likely fine a young child for keeping native herps it really does'nt bite bad it is just the lack of breeders in my area.
