Beardie Behavioural Change,, Brumation?

Tor-Anlec Jun 25, 2003 12:49 PM

Hullo everyone,
Over the last 2 days there has been a sudden change in my beardies behaviour. He has lost his appetite, and not eaten any crickets, though he did eat a few peas.
He spent the morning 2 days ago digging under his climbing logs which he did for about 3-4 hours which is the first time he has done this.
Also he has begun laying on his log in the corner at about 6pm (his ussual dinner time) where he seems to doze and sleep. Normally he only climbs there when he wants to sleep at 11 pm.
Mornings he appears active and alert, and basks a little, his appearance hasnt changed nor has the smell of his poops, so nothing seems to suggest any illness.
He is 1 year old, and been here for about 3 months. This is the first time he has exhibited this behaviour, ive read about brumation and thinking that it may be that?

If anyone could give some advice on this, it would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Tor-Anlec

Hi
i see also some dragon here slow down and hide.
but i think here it is becuase of the heat then they always r more under a rock and come out later during the day.
becuase its now high summer here i already switsh the 100 watt light into a 60 wat type.
it could also be he have a grow slow down after they reach 10-11 month they also wil slow down in eating.
they have grow so fast in the year and then they stop after a year with eating like a maniac.

What time do you turn on and off the lights? Your post said something about your beardie going to sleep at 11pm..I hope you are not leaving the lights on till then. Beardies should only get maximum of 14 hours of daylight or there abouts.

What are your basking temperatures and ambient temperatures?

It wouldn't hurt to get a fecal done to make sure it isn't parasites or disease.

It does sound a bit like he wants to burmate and if you want to let him go ahead, should cut back on amount of daylight and temperatures (64F at night I believe it is with daylight around 80-90 F...I am not sure, be a good ideal to do a search on the forum for Burmation and hybernation to get the exact temps and what to do).

his day is ussually 13 hours, from 10 am till 11 pm,
his temperatures are... 40c left of tank, middle is 30c right is 23c (104f for basking, 86f middle and 73f at the right).
