acceptable sizes for yearlings??

pengulove Sep 01, 2004 11:14 PM

i have an 03 female and male and was wondering if my female might be obese. the male is about 700grams and 35-36 inches long ( i can't get him to sit still at all ever!) and my female is 875 grams and 32 inches long. i can still see her back bone but she is rather bulky. i think she is a may 03 baby and that the male is a july/august baby. they both eat one small f/t rat a week, but i'm sure that she would take a rat every 4 days if i would give it to her.

my questions are should i feed her more often, like every 5 days or leave it at every 7. also is she the right size or is she fat?
too i have them in 28 quart sterilite tubs, i can't find 41 quarts at all in my town. are they ok for right now in the 28's until i can either build them a nice display rack or find the 41's?

thanks for any advice in advance

that is always a tough guestion, I think most on here will say let them eat if they will. Since many ball pythons can go off feed for long periods of time. I know what you mean my eater would eat every 2 days if he could I think.

I have one that eats everything(I feed him 1 time every week or every 2 weeks) and when he turned 1 he weighed a little above 1000 grams. I have another male who will be one in a few more days and he is a very picky eater and I would guess he is right at 450 grams. They both look ok, I wish the eater would rub off on my albino male so he could catch up.
