Power Outage Preps.

doublestakk Sep 02, 2004 12:19 PM

I live pretty much in the path of Frances, on the coast, so I'm positive I'll be losing power for an extended period of time. What do I need to get for the leopard geckos? I'll probably pick up some of those menstraul cramp self-heating pads. Anything else you guys suggest? Thanks in advance.

Heh, south florida isn't looking too great now.

I'm putting all my geckos in a centeral closet in my friend's house which I'll be staying at. Sure, it'll be dark, and they wont have heat, but they'll be safe.

We live in Florida, and its summer, so it's not going to get so cold is to where we should be worried about the geckos health. Although its not best for them to be off heat, its still safe.

Good luck.

Michael

Thanks. A little reassurance about my plans is nice to hear.

I always try to have enough deli-cups for all my geckos just in case of emergancy where I need to get them all packed up and in the car, and dont have time to haul out a giant 40 gallon, and a heavy 10 gallon! I also do the same for my frogs, and in addition to the cups, I have neosporin, a few can-o-crickets, and clean de-chloronated water, theres sometihing else to...bah, I cant remember right now! But I live in Vancouver so my kit is more earthquake preparedness, but I think its something everyone should try to have togther , just in case! mostley becasue if you get evacuated to a shelter they arent going to have de-chloronated water, crickets, or room for tanks! I keep it all in a vintage 1960's suitcase that matches my room nicely, so it dosent have to look like a first aid kit! lol, i know your all going to laugh at me, but i even did a drill, to make sure the system worked! I got everyone in cups and out of there in less than 4 min!

WOW!! 4min! That sounds like a good idea. Even though the only reason i'd have to leave that fast is if there was a fire. (since I live in Ga)I might even try the drill...lol..I can see it now..my fam wondering what the heck I'm doin!!

lol, my family knew what I was doing because we have a lot of various pets and so we all had to make sure we had our individual ones covered (ex. I get the geckos and my cat, my mom gets the rabbits and lets the homing pidgeons out, my dad gets the dog, and my brother gets his cat) five min was my goal time, because i only have 4 herps so I left time for one min. per animal, and an extra min for screw-ups!

Hold on, this state is about to take a pounding. I was trying to drive to a concert in Tampa this morning at 4am and traffic was heavy coming north, so turned around (since would have been starting return trip right now ~midnight). Stay safe and always help those that are going to come out of this on the losing in.

Bracing for Frances,
Matt
