feeding mealworms

Nicko Jun 25, 2003 01:29 PM

I've had my female and she's becoming pretty consistent at eating everyday now. Yesterday even she was watching me dust the worms, her head kept following the bag around. It was pretty funny.

Anyways, she doesnt want anything to do with the worms if they are in a dish. First I thought maybe it was too big, so i got a small lid and put them in there, easily in her sight. She walked up to it, looked at the worms, and then walked away. This is pretty much the normal response to the dish.

However, she readily accepts worms everyday when I drop them one by one in front of her. she wastes no time and goes right at them, sometimes getting them off the tweezers.

Is this alright or should I encourage the dish? I don't mind dropping them in, I like the interaction. Just wondering though.

for your own conveinance, keep trying the dish... it takes them awhile to get used to it sometimes. are you using a transparent dish (glass)? if you're not, then try using a glass ashtray or something similar to that... usually if they can see the mealworms moving in the dish they learn quickly that this is where the food is......
