Any suggestions on what to feed a newly hatched L.Pyro?

jkins Sep 02, 2004 02:07 PM

Hello, I just hatched out some L.Pyros yesterday and am curiuos to see what others have tried to get them to eat pinkies. I know they can be difficult and sometimes will only eat lizards, I just want to hear some opinions or methods that have work for others who have had experience with these guys. Thanks,
Josh

I have three that I purchased as babies last fall (a fourth failed to thrive and died). They have been problem feeders and slow to grow or really thrive. I have found that it is a must to brain the pinkies (f/t of course.) I take a small knife blade and slit the skull to excrete some of the cranial matter. It is also important to leave them in seclusion to eat. I generally give them a brained pink in the evening and check them after a few hours or in the morning. They are still problem feeders but they are getting better. This is the only way they will eat pinkies for me. Braining has worked wonders for my Rubber Boas as well, increasing their meal acceptance frequency several times over.
