Daily to weekly maintenance of a Ball Python...

louiec Sep 02, 2004 02:51 PM

I have done a lot of research and reading up on bp's but I would like to know what some people do on a daily basis in one week to maintain their BP's health and enclosure... just to get an idea (I know they are fairly easy to take care of). Maybe I can also pick up some tips from some of you... on how to simplifly the process (if it can get any simpilar.

So if u can break it down for me on a daily basis from lets say m0n-thurs of the daily chores (changing water, cleaning, etc etc)I would appreciate it (if u want to throw in the once a month or whatever things u may do as well.. please do)
thanks in advance

I keep my snakes in racks and on a daily basis I monitor and adjust temperatures. I change water daily or every other day. When their is any waste I remove it(I usually let it dry somewhat before removing with a tissue). Ideally I change the substrate and rinse every two or three weeks and give a complete cleaning every 6 weeks or so. Hope that helps.

well i have a small number of snakes compaired to most so i have more time to spend with each animal daily then some people do. on a daily basis i change water and clean water bowls. every week on sat i completely clean cages and during the week when needed. i feed my babies on a 3-5 day schedule depending on how well they eat. my sub-adults are on 5 day feeding schedules. my adults are on 7 day feeding schedules. i also monitor temps and humidity on a daily basis and adjust accordingly. I write down every thing as it helps me to remember what i've done and haven't done (feeding, shedding, cleaning, defecation). I also weigh each animal on the first of the month to keep track of which animals have the possibility of breeding the next season and to keep track of the health of the animal. as you see once you obtain more than a few it can be overwhelming as i'm expecting to increase my collection to probably 30 animals before the end of the year. god snakes are fun aren't they.

Daily:
change water and clean water dish
spot clean: check for & remove any feces/urates (if any)
check temps (am & pm)

Weekly:
feed
change carpet piece after defecating
clean & disinfect old carpet & any deco that came into contact w/ waste
spray and wipe cage w/ disinfectant
clean glass

Every 6-8 weeks:
clean (hot soapy water) and disinfect (Nolvasan/Virosan) entire cage and contents

Will really depend on type of cage, setup, substrate, etc you use.
