Need a supplement for my Redfoots

Stoli Sep 02, 2004 02:53 PM

Hello all. I'm in need for a good food supplement for my redfoots. I used to use WalkAbout Farms' forest tortoise mix which I saw incredible results from, but since they have grown in popularity so much over the years they are now only working for zoo's and big time reptile collectors. They just don't have the resources to keep up with individual tort owners like myself. Not surprising because they make a great product. Anyone know of anything else out there for sale where I can place orders for supplement to feed my guys with their meals?
Thanks, Stoli

Mazuri tortoise diet. It can be found on line or if you have a Petsmart near you, you can find it there.

You really can't beat the results. I use it on my Cherryheads and Northern Redfoots among my other tortoises to varying degrees. I've been using it about 4 years now.

The distributors of the Walkabout farms did mention that they were considering other venues for distribution to the private sector. Did you ask them for other options?

Trying to keep the fun in Chelonian care

I hear ya. Tremendous stuff. Used it on my hatchlings (now 3 year olds) and they have grown wonderfully, retained their wonderful coloration, and have strong, perfectly smooth shells. I lost out on both the Forest and Grassland Tort mixes.

Carolina Crickets (Joe Heinden's site) has both powdered opuntia cactus and hibiscus flowers. If you mix these two with calcium carbonate without D3, chopped timothy hay, chopped orchard grass, and dandelion flower heads from your yard you come close to Susan's mix from a vitamin and mineral standpoint.
