rayshon Sep 02, 2004 03:32 PM

on the back of my iguanas rib their is a lump kinda like a bone so I thought mabey it was a broken bone but when I went to feel it it didn't hurt him at all he lets me touch it I was slightly pushing it to see if I felt a feeling as if it was broken but it just feels like a bone poking out so im kinda confused and the vet doesn't give me information over the phone so before I take it to the vet I want to see what you guys and gals have to say

Wow, two people in one day with iguana health issues I've gone through...

I noticed the same thing in a rescue once. It didn't seem to bother the iguana, but it felt kind of like the rib bone was sticking out further than the other ribs. Or like it was at the wrong angle or something.

Have your iguana x-rayed. It will only cost around 40-50 dollars, and it is the only way to tell whether the bone is broken or not. In my case, it turns out that this iguana just had one rib that was shorter than all the others. It was a genetic thing. But I felt a lot better knowing he was okay!

its hard to tell when reptiles have broken bones because they dont always show that they are in pain. also could be mbd my oldest ig had it from an uninformed prevous owner and was left with some deformities that include a funny looking rib and kind of an s shape to the top of his spine. only the vet will know for sure what it is.
