unusual odor

zazzygrrl Jun 25, 2003 01:44 PM

I am concerned about a strong odor from my Gecko enclosure which consists of 3 young females. They all appear healthy, are eating regularly and have been gaining weight (weight ranges from 38-46 grams). Stools look normal, but I think the smell from the enclosure is much stronger then normal. I have never had a sick Gecko, so I can't compare the smell to anything - it isn't amonia, it just seems strong.

We totally cleaned everything last weekend, and even though we remove feces daily or every other day, it is still kinda stinky in there. I was reading the posts below about bacterial or other infections and am wondering which avenues to pursue with this issue.

My son thinks the smell is just the "smell of Leos" but I really don't think that is the case because it is strongly associated with the enclosure itself.
-slate substrate with paper towels in the poop corner
-fed on dusted crickets
-water changed daily

Any ideas?

Are the stools formed, but smelly and light in color (light brown or greenish)?
