Turtles fungus

phishnuts Sep 02, 2004 06:48 PM

My turtles are getting some white fungus looking stuff growing on their legs and tail. What is it? How do I treat it?

Sounds like dead skin. If this is constant then you are feeding too much or the water temp is too high. Of course no one can say for sure what it is without looking at it or looking at a good quality pic. So if you don't think it's skin I would take it to a reptile vet. Turtles do shed their skin once in a while so a little bit is normal, alot is not normal.

This is common in baby turtles that are kept inside. is it a white thick fungus that almost looks like plaque? If so tetra use to make this stuff called sulfa bath or rid rot. I use to soak my hatchlings in it for a couple hours. And then let them dry for about an hour. After that I would place them in clean aquarium with just enough water to keep them hydrated. Watch out though if it is the white fungus then it can kill them faily fast about week and a half. Normally the sulfa bath does the trick and they are fine after a couple soakings. Hope this helps.
