Here's a picture of my new reptarium

babybluefrogs84 Sep 02, 2004 08:13 PM

I had posted a message a while back stating I was going to be getting a reptarium for my frogs, and I've finally done it, got it set up how I like, and am pleased to find the frogs enjoying it. I have some snake plants in there along with 1 larger potho plant and 2 smaller ones. On the bottom I have the expandable dirt and there are 2 small cave type things you can't see on the floor of the cage as well as a waterdish in each corner. The ceiling looks bare but I would like to find a type of vine that doesn't require to be buried in dirt to survive. Any suggestions??

I was trying to get a "group photo" of my frogs and it didn't work out as well as planned. This is the only guy who would sit still! He's the most well behaved frog ever...and I rescued him from PetCo about a year or so back. He had a huge hole on the inside of his arm to the point you could see the muscles and tendon...after taking him to the vet and putting him on medications and soaking him in a solution he healed and is in great shape!! So..this is dedication to my frog Audi :D

How many frogs do you have? I have a gray tree frog. I raised toad tadpoles into baby toads, kept them for a while, but let them go.

I have 4 of the Australian White's Tree Frogs but would like to get a Malaysian Narrow Mouth, AKA Chubby frog, very soon. They have them at PetCo and they're so cute!! I just gotta research a bit and figure out what aquarium or cage to put them in.

i had the 175 gall reptarium and it was great for the price, but it was too hard to keep th humidity high enough. i dont wanna seem like im telling you how to take care of your frogs but make sure the humidity is high enough. i live in florida so its pretty humid here but indoors w/ a/c on etc the humidity drops and in a reptaruim the humidity was about the same as in the house. and also i bought the plastic bottom for in and added substrate and planted bromeliads. it worked well for a while but its easy for the topsoil to dry out and the bottom to saturate. it was a PAIN to clean out, so u are right to not want to plant stuff in there.
i dont think i answered ur question ive just been rambling lol. but i do know im selling mine and switching back to glass. good luck tho

Very nice. The vines are real or man made. If so were did you get them?

I actually bought a plant from wal-mart and kept it out of the cage for like 2 weeks to make sure the leaves were clean and there was no pesticide in the dirt before I planted it...and then because of having the reptarium I used fishing string and tied up some of the stems to the side of the cage...I think it was like $7.00. The other plants are real..the branches are fake. I like the set up...it does me well!!!

Did you buy the branches online if so from where?
Thanks.

I bought them from PetCo...directly from their store. But you can definitely find stuff like that online. I find what I need at local petstores. Even stuff for other animals you could probably put in the frog cage. I was thinking about guying a ladder that goes in a bird cage and putting in the frog cage for something they can crawl on. Obviously natural looking products are the best.

Thanks for the info. I like the natural look but have seen those bird ladders with vines wrapped(natural vines) and growing around them so to cover them up thats an idea to.
Thanks.
