Rat pups vs. mice....

savvgawd Sep 02, 2004 08:41 PM

Would you think its better to start young snakes that will eventually reach a large size on rat pups rather than adult mice? I'm guessing rat pups have more protein and calcium, but also the same taste as a large rat, since I will be feeding large rats later on the taste will stay the same, only a size difference. I'm asking this is regards to my baby female conda and female rock python, both eat mice like a charm now, but I went ahead and ordered rat pups to give it a try....What do you guys think?

I agree, Rat pups are always the best choice over adult mice, that's what a small pair of my reticulated collection are eating. I only use adult mice if they don't have any.

Rats and mice both suck!! Baby rabbits are better.lol. Naw, I feed mice, rats, and rabbits. Rabbit babies are bigger than mice too. Rat pups actually have less developed bones and therefore would not have as much calcium (I am pretty sure) either way I would avoid feeding anythign mice that will eventually eat rats in the long run. Only if it will take nothing else. Baby rabbits have more calcium than baby rats too. They have more developed bones. Now do not be worried about the calcium thing because that is just nothing much to worry about. I have never had problems with it. Rats will do fine, but I had to just add that about the rabbiits. I know most are unable to get abbay rabbits, but I breed them now so I can get them. I agree cody, mice suck. I only feed mice to the smaller things that can only eat pinkies and also to the picky eaters (which is a low numberin my colection)
