(T-) Albino 50% Poss. Het Questions

alienwrkshop Sep 03, 2004 12:53 AM

Hi,

I'm fairly new to breeding, and I've always wanted to get a pair of the regular Het. for albino retics and breed them. But now I've seen these (T-) Albino 50% Possible Hets on the classifieds and I was wondering what my chances were of producing some (T-) Albino offspring? (I'm not really good with figuring out these things...lol, sorry). I was planning on just getting the Normals (JKB Reptiles has Normals, Tigers, and Super Hets available). Would it matter which on I got- I mean, are my chances higher if I got the Super Hets? Hey, thanks alot for your help guys. It was really appreciated. Thanks.

well, The odds with the 50% hets are going to be much less than with 100% hets. To be exact, it would be 75% less likely to produce albinos with the 50% hets (because you would need at least a male and female that were het). If you want a sure thing, get the 100% hets. If u want to gamble, get the 50%, but if you do get a trio, you would greatly improve your chances. The only thing that stinks is if your male isnt het, youre screwed, even if both your females are. Good Luck

It's just those "amel" type albino's are really tempting...LOL.

Thanks

Jon,
I bred my male Tiger het (T-) Albino to my Female Tiger non het to broden the bloodline a bit. I will breed two hets together next year and god willing I should produce a nice healthy clutch of albino t- and 66% possie hets. This year 50% Possible Chance Amel T- are a great stepping stone. You asked though if purchasing a super, tiger or normal would give you a better chance at albino. Here were the numbers 10 tigers 12 normals 9 supers here were the sex ratio
supers were 7.2
tigers were 9.1
normals 10.2
as you can see a lot of males were produced so I have discounted my pricing quite a bit to move them out. These are the only possie het amels t- available right now and possibly for the rest of the 04 season. I'll hold onto all of them to prove them out but it would be nice to have other people involved in the project.

Thanks. This would be my first time breeding anything and I admit, those Amel type albino's are awesome! The thing is, I don't want to take that chance on 50% possible hets if there is a large chance that I won't be able to produce albinos. I'm not planning on running a large scale business or anything- I just wanted to produce some albinos for myself and maybe sell a few. I might just wait for the 66% hets next year. But I don't know...I "might" buy a pair of your 50's. Right now the 100% hets for "normal" albinos would be my guarantee for albinos.
I'll contact you (if it's ok with you) for more questions on those amel type hets. Thanks again.

If your not looking to to take the chance on possie hets then purchasing 100% hets are the way to unfortunatly a very low number of 100% hets have been produced. Infact they have only been produced 3 times in 8 years of this project.

Why so cheap? if you are selling them at normal prices you could market them as normals without screwing the market for everyone else. I know people that have more than 100 grand wrapped up in amel projects. You are doing them an incredible dis-service. If you werent already aware, you have more than a few people considerably upset with you. Thank you for your time.

Hey Darrell,

I just wanted to know if you remembered me. I used to stop by a few times during the weekend to check out the albino's at prehistoric pets. I was that one asian guy you took in the back and showed me all those awesome retics. I just wanted to say thanks. I didn't get the chance to before you left for Georgia. Maybe you'll visit California again. Alright then, take care. Also, thanks for giving me the advice on "Kyle". Laters

The facts
Baldogo reptiles who are partnered with Pete Kahl sell 100% Hets for the following prices
Normals $500.00 EACH

Tigers $1500.00 EACH

66% Possible hets
Normals $250.00
TIGERS $500.00
sUPERS $1500.00-
all are sold out

I am the only person to offer 50% possie het amel t- in the 2004 market, I will ask what I need to in order to sell them and I consider the low pricing an early bird special. They are feeding and soon the pricing will rise however i will keep the pricing on the males lower then females. As I posted before very few females were produced therefore I feel that selling possible het males for to high a price currently would not help or hurt the market in any way. Also you mentioned that you know people hat have 100K wrapped up in the project. Well, I'll call your bluff on this. Here are more facts. PK Reptiles purchased the Origianl moher for $75,000 in 1996 then she produced a small clutch in 2000 a few of these animals were sold most were held back. then 2001 produced 30 eggs all tigers from this female. those animals were sold rather inexpensively to a select few breeders. The 1st T- were produced by the Baldogo's in 2003 which only 3 normals were sold for a very low price so if you dont mind saying who are these big money guys with 100k wrapped into the project??
Sounds to me like your just trying to start trouble were there is no trouble to start.

Now you are aware of the facts and maybe you can see my point. I wasnt bluffing. I wasnt trying to talk down to you. I just wanted you to consider the situation and circumstances. Thank you for your time.

I don't see how the prices are so wrong. They are only possible hets.
