Cage Open Alarm/Indicator?

jtgayton Sep 03, 2004 11:59 AM

Hi. I'm wondering if there exists some sort of alarm or indicator that can tell me if my cage is open? The other day I left the top open and my Irian Jaya Carpet Python escaped. Fortunately, I found him in the basement, but my wife won't let me keep him if he gets out again.

I'd love some sort of device that would beep as long as the cage is open, and would stop when I close it again. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Go to radio shack or Homedepot. Look for a magnetic reed switch door alarm. You attach one side to the door, and one to the cage, they are usually battery operated at radio shack. And they make a beep noise when opened. Not too pricey either

My GF had one of those and left it activated one day when I walked in. That thing was friggin loud. Not something I'd want to listen to while I was changing substrate.

I'm sure a switch could be wired to a power source of some sort. Maybe have it run a stereo with a Polka CD in it. Or even worse, Yanni. Irritating enough to make you remember to shut the lid but without any hearing loss

But seriously, I like your idea but it would need to be quieter.

Also, from my experience once someone has a snake escape due to human error it does not happen again.
