persian uromastyx -- need info

guenette Sep 03, 2004 03:34 PM

Hi. My name is Ronda, and I am new to this lizard thing. I am from Canada, and have recently decided to purchase a Persian Uromastyx for my daughter. We are just waiting for the lizard and aquarium to come in. Meanwhile, I am trying to get as much information on the species and how to care for it as I can. Any info would be welcome. Most particularly I would like to know if there are any good books discussing this particular species (or at least uromastyx in general). Thanks a bunch.
Ronda.

Ronda-

I don't know for sure if the species you were referring to (Persian Uro) is the same as an Iranian Uro (U. Asmussi), but this website talks about care of Iranians and Hardwickis at the bottom of the page:

Asmussi

Excellent care information for general uromastyx husbandry can be found here on Kingsnake in the Care Sheets/FAQ area and on the following site:

thanks. i looked at both sites. the second was very informative. i'm pretty sure it is a uro hardwicki. my main concern is finding a reliable book.

Amazon.com (not meaning to plug) has some books. I'm posting a link to a book on care of uromastyx. Hopefully it has Hardwicki in there.

Good luck

think you missed this one:

Desert Lizards: Captive Husbandry and Propagation
by Randall L. Gray

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1575241609/qid=1094994412/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/104-3867127-9019930?v=glance&s=books

Also on amazon. The Vosjoli books are very general in info. Randy is one of the founding members of the uromastyx community. Probably the most up to date info out there.
