Hurricane Frances and possible power outage

pait Sep 03, 2004 05:32 PM

We are about to be hit by Hurricane Frances and had just purchased a junvenile Bearded Dragon the weekend after Hurricane Charley at the Reptile Show in Daytona. I am concerned that there might be a day or so when we lose power but the weather will still be too inclement to take the bearded dragon outside for sun and heat. I do not expect to lose power before tomorrow evening but may not be able to bring the bearded dragon outside until the weather clears on Monday. Should we keep the heat lamp on longer tomorrow than we usually do? Or does anyone have any suggestions to make sure the bearded dragon does the best under the conditions we might experience?

as long as the bd is kept dry and comfortable you should be fine.

just don't offer to much food if the dragons temp is too low for digestion.

possibly give the bd some warm soaks and slightly warmer temps for the next day or two ... the idea is to get it to have good digestion of any food it has so that if you have 2-3 days with less than great temps and light that he can just hang out in a dark warm (warm as in 75 to 85) dry place and kinda ride-out the storm.

I'm in Saint Pete, charley missed me but had me making plans for the same kind of deal...

in fl we have good temps so realy the things with the storm that I worry most about are:

building damage harming the pet.
water soaking the pet and leading to low temps and or a skin fungus or a breathing related problem.
storm surge flooding the dragon with nasty water.

temps are not so much a big problem.

IMHO

4- hour heat packs, they are very inexpensive and one in with a dragon keeps them heated up to digest.

You can also in a jam buy hand warmers at Walmarts, they are like mini heat packs.

If you had asked a day or two earlier, I could have sent you some
