My Ackie has Flukes!

gvbryan Sep 03, 2004 08:08 PM

Not expecting that since it was captive born. I got some medecine to inject into a cricket. I moved him into a plastic tub for a while, with paper towel bottom. Hopefully that will help his nails.

Some and maybe many crickets have internal parasites, most are species specific. It could have come from crickets, it could have come from contact with a WC animal of some type, many ways it could happen. Where did ya get it from and where do ya get your feeder insects? Ackies are all CBB in the US. Theres also the possibility of an ackie eating another lizard in captivity and getting it.

I got it from Pete Wiess. All that he has eaten is crickets. They all came from a local pet store. What should I do to avoid anything like this in the future?

I order 2000-3000 crickets at a time from superworm farm, but Ive never bothered to get my ackie, my beardies, or my albigs checked for parasites. My animals are healthy growing, and doing great. I even let a few WC monitors I had go without worying about fecal exams because I buried a few monitors, some long term pets after deworming incidents because of subpar husbandry at that time, deworming treatments, and a vet that was experimenting on herp medicine, and exotics vet, who said he has experience with herps. Non the less the choice is yours to treat or not to. I couldnt tell you exactly where the animal got the fluke from, it would help to maybe get some crickets tested from your local source. Good luck and let us know how everything turns out.
