MA laws....anyone from MA know about this?

TenorGoddess Sep 03, 2004 09:12 PM

Greetings!

Ok, the last time I did a look up on the gov. pages of MA, they stated we could NOT have any retics, condas, rock pythons, ETBs, GTPs, veiled chameleons, gators or crocs.
(and of course, no hots).
They also stated you must have a permit for all monitors.

So, first off, has this changed any?
Second, where do you get permits for monitor species? I want all my animals to be accounted for an protected against anyone thinking "you shouldn't have that here" kind of stuff.
Also, can you have a permit for retics or any of the above listed as no-nos? If so, do I get those from the same place as for monitors? (and any idea how much these cost so I can start saving up? Yes, Amanda really really REALLY wants retics. LOL!)

Thanks!

Amanda Rose

I never heard of any snake or monitor bans in MA, just hots and crocodilians. That's not to say there isn't any, I just never heard of them.

I wouldn't typically say this, but in the case of MA I will. You are much better off owing the animals secretly and just not telling anyone you have them or tell them you have permits if they ask. You are opening your house to inspection at any time they decide you need to be inspected, which can be a pain in the rear. Unless you're going to be breeding, or have a mass collection, I wouldn't go through the permit process.

That's the problem though. I do plan to be breeding. I want this to be legit though. No hiding. I will look up the laws again just to be sure but a month ago I checked on gov. laws and regs and it said no on MANY of the large species except burms. Go figure.

Thanks!

Amanda

Well, good luck A fair suggestion tho, the good 'ol "live free or die" state is only a few mins away, and as the slogan suggests much less restrictive.
