Boa albino sharp line

conrad8 Sep 04, 2004 10:15 AM

Hi, I'm gonna buy a pair of albino boas; I've booked a pair of albino sharp line, but checking the Brian Sharp's web, he noticed about incompatibility between normal albinos morph and sharp line. My question is what is exactly the genetic incompatibility between both boa morphs?
Greetings to the forum.
Emilio.

The albino gene in the Kahl albino is a different gene in the Sharp albino more or less. There must be more than 1 gene that will produce albinism. Since you would need 2 albino alleles to produce albinos.. if they are of different types.. you going to end up with normal looking boas het for Sharp/Kahl

If im wrong im sure I will be corrected

You're right, the offspring will be DH for both traits since they are not compatible.

Ok, thanks for answer. If I understood it rightly, it means that there's 2 genes for albinism, so we can produce two kind of albinism: Kahl and sharp lines; but these lines are incompatible between them, if so, they'd produce normal albino boas doble het kahl and sharp types.
Well, that's important for me to know, becouse I reserved a pair of sharp albinos from a breeder, and I thought that the incompatibility was about fertility or malformations on the future litter.
So, if you're right, there's no problem crossing a sharp one and a normal albino; it would produce normal albinos, but 100% healthy and fertil babies. If I'm wrong please let me know, and again, thanks so much from Spain.

Yes there are 2 genes for albinism.
The Kahl Albino is commonly refered to as the "Original Strain".
If you breed a Kahl albino to a Sharp albino, NO you will not produce Albinos. You will produce NORMAL looking boas het for kahl/sharp albinos.. you would have to breed to back to the parents or to eachother to produce albinos. You said that you reserved a pair of Sharps - so that means your getting a male and female SHARP Strain albino. If you breed these two together, YES you will get albinos your first breeding.

Ok, uff what a disaster! I mean, if I breed sharp albinos, they can only be crossed with sharp albinos, and everyone with a kahl albino wouldn't be interested on them, as well as every sale must be accompanied with that information...
I don't like this very much... I'll think what to do about this.
Anyway, thanks so much. By the way, my msn is conrad08@hotmail.com if u wanna agregate me.

I would not call that a disaster. Sharp albinos are not easy to come by - well not as easy as Kahl albinos. Also if you notice, Sharp albinos go for MUCH more than a Kahl albino... and Sharps usually have a distinct look to them.

Ok, I know they're more expensive, but they are incompatible with original strain. If I wanna breed them with coral phase or aneristic boas, how would the genetic works? I mean, I don't want a pair of albino boas that can only be crossed with sharp ones; I would like a pair of albino boas that could be crossed with aneristic or coral ones. Is possible to cross them?
Regards, Emilio.

Right they are not compatible with original strain. That does not mean you cannot cross them with anery or coral phase boas. If you cross the sharp albino with an anery.. you will have het for sharp snows. YOu could cross also with the coral phase, just make sure its a sharp coral albino. =)

I shouldnt have used those 2 pairs in my reply.

Selectivley breed high pink animals into your sharp project and you'll get coral sharps eventually.

So could it possible to obtain coral sharps, couldn't it? If so, does anyone know how can obtain coral one? I mean, what is the genetic needed to?
Finally, I think I'll buy the pair; the pair are babies, so still have to grown a lot before breed them.
Here is a pic of one of them.
Thanks so much.

Hi, how is it going. At last I bought a pair of albino boas at TErraristik (Hamm). Here is the pic of the male. They're sharp line, and I think they're beautiful.
