my igs are in reptariums with plexi glass fitted on 3 sides. Helps hold in heat and moisture. and they LOVE being able to climb on the door.

Thanks!

This cabinet is 6' high 4' wide and 22" deep. This wouldn't work for a giant green but works well for our Frodo.

It was $99.00.

Wow, that is beautiful, you did a great job on it! Thanks for sharing this. Ichabod is only good for about another year (maybe less) in his current setup, and this is a great idea for an upgrade! How much modifying did you have to do, and how difficult was it?

What we did as far as modification is we cut 2 holes 13 inches long by 8 inches deep in each side of the top shelf. This way Frodo could climb down through to either side of the cage. We realized that for structure streangth we could not remove the center diveder so we had to make it so that he could climb through the shelves. To do this we made two large holes in the upright middle divider. One that went from the shelf where we keep his food and one at the bottom to get to his water. We decided the water was best at the bottom since it is heavy and would be easier to get out that way. The right side is pretty much open. In the pic you see a large fake fern, we have since traded that out for some nice branches. (thanks to a branch breaking blizzard this spring!)

On the left side there is one full shelf mid way which is where his food is served. We had to put back a 1/3 of a shelf between that and the top with carpet on it so Frodo could more easily climb up to the top. It is SO hard to describe this! LOL

For the doors we cut four holes for plexy which we hung on the inside with mirror hanging brackets. These are easy to work with and are less permenent so that if we did want to change the plexy we wouldn't have to dismantle the whole cage! This part is the most tricky (according to my Husband and Father in Law who made it!) You must have the right blade meant to cut through melamine and you must measure carefully as the doors could cruble if you cut the holes too big.

I will try and post a pic of the inside later while Frodo is soaking in the tub.

Thanks again,
Donna

Excellent, thanks so much for all the info! I'm printing it out so I can refer to it when the time comes. And inside pics would be great, when you have the chance.

Thanks!
