Ball pythons with other herps species...not in same cage...in same "unit"...

lilroach56 Sep 04, 2004 07:53 PM

Is it okay to house 3 different species (blood python, ball python, leopard gecko) in one "unit"? they will each be in seperate cages (sealed with caulk) but the cages will be built into one. It is a modification of Randy Turner's 4 cage unit. It will Look like this sort of, just not as crude. Would it be okay to house like this or are the risks to great?

I see no problems with them being in the same "unit" IF certain conditions are met:

1. There is something blocking their view of one another. Whether that be a background of some type or opaque glass it doesn't matter, just so they are unable to see eachother.

----AND----

2. Each of the species you listed have their own temp./humidity requirements. It could get tricky to meet these individual needs. Humidity could most likely be solved fairly easily, but the temperature requirements might get tricky. With all of the wires for the different heat sources, thermostats, etc. it could become a mess quickly.

I don't know much about geckos, but does the species you would be keeping in this unit need all of that room? If not, I would really consider giving the ball python some more space. If it's a baby now it will need the extra space eventually.

Just my opinion.

It's actually not that I love or even like snakes. I just hate rodents.

Each of the herps need the same heat requirements (80 cool, 90 hot). As far as the ball python cage i will probably move him/her to a rack when a start getting more for breeding.
