Do Dumeril's Boas retain some of their color?

IndyShark Sep 04, 2004 10:15 PM

I have been actively looking for a Dumeril's boa and while the babies are very nice looking, the parents are dark and dull. Are there colorful Dumeril's adults? I understand they won't be as colorful as the babies, but I'd like to purchase one that will still be attractive as it get older.

Thanks for your advice!

Not much has been done to develope the Dumerils boa as far as color breeding goes. For now most breeders are concentrating on producing a lighter specimen. This would help to weed out Dumerils that don't produce much red(most desirable) into adulthood. To some extent this has been done with some of the orange variants but that should be just the tip of the iceberg as layers of black, grey and brown are removed.

This is a shot I took outside, during a soak, a couple of months ago of my lightest adult female. However, she has relatively no red.

yes i think there are some nice looking adults that have nice coloration.
i think the important thing is to find a breeder that has nice looking snakes that you can see or at least see pictures of.
then when he/she has babies available you can pick up one of those.
good luck finding one. i now own three and think they're really
nice boas.
here is a picture of one of my new dumerils i picked up from basically boas.
