Tiger Sal hasn't eaten for a month!

ddsharp Sep 05, 2004 02:40 AM

Good Grief! "Marty Feldman" my adult salamander has given up his porking out days... he's been shedding every two weeks and is close to fasting for 6 weeks now. He was huge - looks okay still, isn't digging much anymore (lathargic?), he stays under his bark tunnel and drops his head when offered his favorite cricket, no lesions that I can tell... do I go to the vet? I changed the 'Repti-beast' substrate and removed the escapee crickets and meal worms (don't wanna stress him). Maybe his cage was too dirty? How long can these guys go without eating? Could he be in some sort of seasonal funk? It was suggested that if he morphed after he was a sexually mature mud dog-he may only live a couple of years (i/o 15 yrs.) and his demise would be from not eating. Any others with knowledge of this? Help! Thanks, DD

What's the dominate temperature? It may be summer temps
getting to him if it's not below 75 degrees.
Otherwise, you can always take his stool to a
vet and get it checked for parasites.
