i know how genetics work and everything in leopard geckos and such, but not balls. balls seem weird to me, so many morphs. so what would i get if i breed a "butterscotche ghost" to a wild type? hets?

The Advanced Genetics Wizard, www.geneticswizard.com, is an excellent website for predicting outcomes of breedings between morphs, if you know whether they are recessive/co-dom/dom. I'm sure that there are many more people with greater expertise than I, but you might want to check out that website. Peter Kahl also has a section on genetics on his website, www.pkreptiles.com, as does Ralph Davis, www.ralphdavisreptiles.com/matrix. Once you start studying genetics, you will probably be hooked - it's fascinating stuff! I got hooked my last year of college and spent all my spare time in the library devouring biology and genetics textbooks, even though I was an Economics major!

the thing is, i DONT know if "butterscotche ghost" is recessive or line bred or what. i guess that would have been a better question, is it?

All the current hypomelanistic (aka ghost) mutations in ball pythons are caused by single recessive genes. I don't know which types of ghosts are compatible with each other though (i.e. which ones are really different hypo genes and which are just different background colors from other genes in the particular line).

So, you would get normal looking het hypo's by breeding a hypo to a normal.
