2 satanic eggs laid on leaf.

jip Sep 05, 2004 01:40 PM

My female finally laid 2 eggs. Unfortunatly while I was gone for a couple of days she laid them right on a plant leaf close to the top of the tank. So by the time i noticed the eggs they were dried up. I figure they were probably not fertile.
My pair are only about a year old and this is my first go at breeding satanic's. Does it sound normal for her to just drop the eggs anywhere if they aren't fertile? Also, if these are the first 2, would it be fair to say the next ones may be fertile? Or are they still a little young?
Thanks Jip

yea, generally (from my understanding) any uroplatus will lay hard-shelled, spherical eggs on the ground (maybe buried a bit). infertile eggs are soft and will stick to leaves, branches, etc.

as far as them drying out...when i was waiting for my eggs to hatch, i kept them in the same conditions as the parents, and the substrate was not really all too moist. the problem i run into when the substrate gets moist is mold will start to form. im not totally sure, but i think these eggs would be a little more resistant to dryness than your average soft-shelled egg, like the crested geckos, which can dry out in 24 hours.

Your geckos are not to young to breed if your female is producing eggs, all you need to do is get your male interested in your female and you should get some good eggs.
