Force brumation on ball phython

ritamcfarsons Sep 05, 2004 06:43 PM

Balls are know for their hunger strikes for no reason but can you give them a break from feeding voluntarily with an early extended brumation? I will be away for 3 months and was thinking of brumating my ball phyton for this period. I have control over the heat and light using timers and thermostats etc. my parents and brothers will remain home. They can easily check for the temps and timer that they are working fine but they are not reptile people and cannot really handle the feeding and cleaning. He eats well, very well actually, he’s over 3 feet and less then a year old. Would it be ok?

thanks

I have snakes in my collection that I don't feed for at least 6 months every year. Last year I had a couple of snakes go off feed, one for 9 months and one for 11 months. They were gravid females so no big deal.

If you aren't feeding, there is no cleaning.

Just have your family members do frequent water changes and your snake will be fine. Just be ready for a hungry snake when you get home.
