How long to brumate pair of booas/ intentional prolonged

ritamcfarsons Sep 05, 2004 06:43 PM

I will be away for 3 months and was thinking of brumating my boas for this period. I have control over the heat and light using timers and thermostats etc. my parents and brothers will remain home. They can easily check for the temps and timer that they are working fine but they are not reptile people and cannot really handle the feeding and cleaning. Both snakes are of very good weight ( more on the fatty side). I had read of bromating for 2 months usually. Would an extra month be bad? How would it affect the breeding next January?

Thanks

I would not do that as boas don't hibernate as they are tropical snake and there is no need for them to hibernate. Maybe there is someone you know that can take care of them for you. Or someone on this forum that lives near you can take care of them until you get back.

Take care,
Tom
