I need anole advice
I am an exotic bird owner, tropical fish, snail, and crayfish owner, and hermit crab owner, website administrator, as well as hermit crab book author. I am not new to animals or pets and I fight every day for the rights of small animals and to close down abusers (including those who sell animals for profit, only to their demise) But yesterday, in a momentary lapse of reason, Iwent against everything I believe in and did it. I got suckered at a kiosk. I bought two captive bred 4 month old anoles from "baby dragon adoption" at the Renaissance fair. I took home the "care sheet" which says that two (a pair) can live harmoniously in a less than one gallon KK (Kritter KArrier) with a stick to sit on and gravel. A spray mist twice a day and some dry food.
Well, I got home and did a little research and bought the TFH " green anole" book from petco. I realized I had been hornswaggled. So, with whatever money I could scrounge up, I bought them a 10 gallon tank with a glass lid, an UTH, a 50 watt basking light with UVA, some banana baby food, 3 different kinds of anole food, live meal worms, calcium powder, a mister bottle, all kinds of tank decorations. the only thing is theres no where to get small crickets here and I am not sure I can stomach it. I want to try dried ones....
They did eat some of the banana/organic honey/calcium powder mix I made today. Without live crickets do they have a chance? I am told since theyre so young and already do eat some non live food, they may be okay with this set up.
I just worry if I give them to someone who DOESNT get as anal-retentive as I do where I at least try, they will only be worse off. No one local I know wants to take them anyway.
Can you please help me? I have so many other responsibilities and I work full time, yet I never seem to have any money. I want to know what I can do to help this pair have a decent life with my limited resources... (limited, but still better than the average joe shmo who bought them from this fair and will never ever provide them with even 10% of what I already have)
thanks!

im sorry, I only posted in these two forums. I wanted to be sure I got a decent chance at a quick answer
I think my main problem is the crickets, and also, its soo humid in there now... but I will get a screen lid on Tuesday and just put the glass lid over part of that

Actually glass lids hold the perfect humidty, excpet mine broke when the basking light overheated it. Definetley get the mesh. And it broke 2 months after I had the light on it so go ahead and use it for a couple days. Crickets are a MUST

My mother did the same thing. I always wanted a lizard and she saw the Babydragons adoption thing and got me two. They should be put out of business. I did the same thing you did. However they definatly need crickets. I have on occasion given them small silk worms. Which Renfare did you get them from?

the one in Tuxedo, NY.
I did feed them crickets before I gave them away. Poor things were so hungry. And on top of it all, the petstore that took them said the reason one was dark brown was because they were both MALE. UGH! she sold them to me as a reproducing pair!!! I HATE KIOSKS!!

i didnt read this... but all i have to say is that if anyone should be shut down, it outta be them..... i hate mybabydragon ever so much.... they giev incorrect care info, most of thirs look sick, and the one I got form them lasted 3 weeks under prime conditions..... i hate them so much

I agree, I had to give them away. I cant provide what they need. So all mybabydragon.com did was cause heartbreak, in my book, both for me, and for the other anoles bought by real dummies who bought them and will now kill them.

I know what kind of panic your probably in. Go to reptilefood.com and order 1000 of the smallest size crickets they have. (trust me, they have them small enough.) its 10.00 plus shipping. I know how it feels to get an animal and then find out how much it really costs, but hopefully you can afford the crickets. I have been getting crickets from them for a while, and they are very good. If you get adults you can also breed them. It isn't very difficult to find cricket breeding instructions online, And you don't need those breeding kits. About the most important thing anyone can say about reptiles is research first.
