Feeding problems!!

thomasboxertko Sep 05, 2004 08:05 PM

I have a 3 year old male BP that i got at a Reptile show back in May. He has not eaten since i got him. He was a nice size and weight when i purchased him, i also have his feeding record from the breeder. Now as of today he has not eaten anything and shows no interest in anything i try to feed him. I have tried mice, rats, gerbils and pink rat pups. I have tried dead, live and frozen. His substrate is coconut bark and heat is 97 on warm side under hide and 82 on cold side under hide. Humidity is around 67% and 82% goes up and down during the day. I mist about every 5-8 hours. I also have a 3 year old male that does eat fine and a young female that eats also and they are in same type set-ups. My tank is around 50 gallons. Please help me out. It is getting frustrating. LOL Just need some tips and advice. Thanks Thomas

Hey Thomas boxertko ,

Im working on my 5th pair of ball pythons im moveing up into breeding hets and poss hets. Ive had the same problem with a female that i got from a very well known stor where i live. I looked up info by surfing the web about ball pythons. They some times can go 7 mounths with out eating a meal. My female that i have know just started eating again. She had her first rat last week in 6 1/2 month. So my opinion is when she ready to eat again shell eat. Also you might want to have her checked out to make sure that the snake is healthy. I have all my snakes checked every six months i do the whole 9 yards on them blood work EXT. Hope this info is help full to you. Good Luck with your new snake

Many novice keepers keep their BPs way too hot. A hot spot in the upper 80s, with the rest of the cage around 80 is plenty warm enough. All my adults have summertime temps of about 88 on the warm end, and 80 on the cool...most still seek out the cooler end most of the time. Try dropping your warm end about 8 to 10 degrees...good luck!

Agreed.
That sounds a little too warm to me as well.

My target temperature range is 91-92/hot side to 78/cool side.
..they are all eating like clockwork.
