White Sided Brooksi....couple of questions.....

stevebinnig Sep 05, 2004 08:08 PM

I just love the white sided brooksi but I'm wondering if I should wait until next year when more are being bred and the price goes down. Are there many out there? Is there any down side to them? (EX: babies are tough to get going, weak bloodlines, etc.)
Thanks for any answers. I've never kept any of the Floridas or Brooks, though I've been breeding snakes for 30 plus years. I need something brand new!
What about the "Blue" Axanthics?(New England strain?) They sound cool. Are they really blue? Thanks again all!

I also love the White-Side Brooksi. And I "bit the bullet" and purchased a hatchling this year. He's great. Growing fast, eating well, and beautiful. I also purchased an Axanthic het-White-Side to breed him to in 2-3 years. Definitely an investment with the prices as they are. If you wait until next year the prices may drop some but you will be a year behind waiting for them to reach breeding size. I reduced my collection of all but one pair of Cornsnakes (Love-line Okeetees, couldn't part with them) and made room for my new Kingsnake hatchlings. Why wait?

The bloodlines are very strong. I've produced Whitesides this year by breeding Whiteside to Whiteside and have had absolutely no problem with infertility, birth defects or small runty babies. This is a relatively new morph and there is so much room to grow. As of right now the Whitesides are only available in the Normal and Axanthic phases. This leaves many new morphs yet to be seen such as a Lavender Whiteside or a Hypo Whiteside. Also the Normal Whitesides can be enhanced by outcrossing them into nicer normals to bring out more yellow or orange on top. It is very exciting to be into Brooks Kings right now because there are so many different directions you can go. Here is a pic of my Axanthic Whiteside.

You know, they are pricey (I think $500 a pop) but not in the thousands. In this hobby if you want some return on your investment, you've got to be producing babies before there are alot of other people supplying the market. Buy now. Even if you produce babies 3 years down the line and sell them for $100, at least you'll have the demand so your babies will sell.

Brooks kings are excellent snake pets. They do not demand much from you except in cage cleaning. You know how kings are.. eat once, poop 3 times lol.
