Fire bellied toad questions

JohnnyToad Sep 05, 2004 08:26 PM

Hello,
I have done about a months reading on fire bellied toads in hopes of buying a few. I pretty much know how feeding and how the tank should be set up. I know probably way too much about these beautiful little creatures not to have owned one. I still have a few questions left. Is a ten gallon tank suitable for a few of them. I know they need more water then land and the water has to be filtered. I see companies selling Lee's Herp Haven? Are these any good? They have one that size wise is very close to a ten gallon tank. Its wider and shorter but about the same cubic inches. Is this good? Also with filtration can I use a fish tank filter? Are there filters for tanks that are land and water?

Thank You

John

The Herp Haven thing should be fine for at least 2. I know of people keeping 6 in a 10 gallon and doing fine, but my opinion is at least 5 gallons per frog. About the filtration... they sell disoposable underwater filters that you just hook an airhose to and change out every month, and there are much better ones that have their own pumping system, etc. Your bigger stores like petco, petsmart or any pet store that carries a signifigant amount of Herps should carry them. Best of luck to you.
