Best wishes to our herper friends in Florida.........

LindaH Sep 05, 2004 08:40 PM

I grew up on the Texas gulf coast and had my share of hurricane experiences. I feel so bad for the folks in Florida and I wish them the best in this terrible time.

Here's a little pic of my Leopard girl. She's a yearling, now, and has kept her coloring and contrast pretty nicely! I love these Leopards. Mine were a little fiesty when they were little, but now they are so mellow and are always ready for a ratsicle!!! Thanks for looking.

Where did you get the leopard? How much are they going for I havent seen or heard much about them lately but I remember they have several different morps in a litter. How old is yours its looks kinda large I thought they just appeard on the market in the last few years.

I got my pair from Jeremy Stone a year ago. I'm not an expert on these guys, but I understand this pattern morph was first produced in Germany. It has been proven to be a recessive trait. I haven't been keeping up with their current prices, but they were around 2 - 2.5k each. I think they are still in that price range. They are a Central American variety and stay smaller as adults. I'm especially happy with the way mine have retained the brightness and color contrast they had as babies. I love the pattern detail on these boas. To me, it looks like the links on a byzantine bracelet The one pictured is my female. The male is an exact copy, only a tad smaller.

Yes, I jsut picked up a pair of yearlings from H.J. Winner at Daytona(the german breeder who first produced them), mine arent as light as that but they have more reds. I like the high white ones though, they will make interesting combos with other stuff.
i need to take pics of them.....I love them, mine are a little nippy but they arent as bad ass nics I have had.
They love ratsicles too!
What I have noticed on the leopards is and after talking to H.J. Winner about them, is that they are not only extremely variable but that the variables ina litter tend to be genetic.
g:
You have two like yours you breed them and get a few stripers ones, a few with a few white spots on their chin. a few like parents, and a few oddities here and there.
He said afer repeated breedings all those traits are genetic and can be passed on.
Real weirtd stuff, which makes the combos that more exciting!!!

Things here in Sarasota are a little wet, but fine. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people that have had it a lot worse than us.

Here you go Linda, we could not get a really good photo because she ate last night. Fern is doing quite well in her new home. She is discovering what "real" humidity is too!

Take care,

We just can't seem to get away from these darn storms this year, can we? We were thinking of you guys out on the island too. Now we have to set our sights on Ivan. Give us a call if Ivan comes to town and you need somewhere to go. We have missed many of the hurricanes in recent years, I guess this year belongs to Florida!

and learned how boas populated the islands by being swept north on driftwood by hurricanes.....also reminds me of getting smacked by Bertha. (I live in CA now.)

I have a Cay Caulker paid for at CFRB. Hopefully they aren't being swept north!

Be safe everyone, watch for flying shanties mon!

Linda that is one awesome Leopard boa!
I now know what I'll be getting next year.
I was going to get a motley but forget that, the Leopards (IMHO) are way better looking.
Thanks for the reinforcment!

I happened to be at Jeremy's when he still had a bunch of them and was fortunate to be able to pick these out. Thanks Jeremy

Yes, I'm crazy about them in every way. They are great to care for and are never picky eaters. In fact, mine are so funny in that when they grab their rat, they do this big hiss thing and put a lot of enthusiasm into "killing it again"......hehe!!

I can't wait to see what happens when this pattern shows up down the road as Hypos, Ghosts, Albinos, T-pos Albinos, etc... It's such a cool pattern and there are a lot variances between them. I love looking them!!
