Bosc eggs starting to hatch

jcmonitor Sep 05, 2004 10:37 PM

I have a little sav comming out of his/her egg tonight started at around 1013 this evening. Will post pictures in the morning of it comming out I just have some of the slit and tongue flickering around. Very excited first of 25 of this set of eggs.
Feeling very happy about it, but need to keep realistic and see what happens over the next few weeks as far as eating and general health, but from the flickering of the tongue going on I have to say this is one healthy little guy very active in there.
Alright back to monitoring the monitor hatching. Pictures to follow.
Cheers
JC

Awesome and good luck with the rest of the batch.

3 cheers for JC. Way to go, glad they are hatching.
I've had a hard time not posting questions on their progress.
I can't wait to see the pics and keep us updated.

Well it's been a ful 12 hours and this guy is out and about all the way. Such a cute little monitor has the best qualities of mom and dad. well I still havent figure out how to get several pictures up at one time so please forgive the many posts but I think they are worth it.

Cheers,
JC

yoops that was later sorry this one should be first

That is the strangest looking hatch sequence I have ever seen. Did you help it out? If so, you may want to be patient, it can take a couple of days for a monitor to come out of the egg after pipping.

Either way, the last pic shows a nice little monitor. Congrat's.

Cutting them out of the egg will end up with some problems, like ruptured unbilitus(sp) or non-absorbing of the yolk. But of these can cause weak babies and possibly the loss of them.

But congrats and hold your horses. FR

Will do. I will admit I cut this one peace because it was very slit up and only hat one part holding it to the shell. I only did that this morning after about 12 hours of it being in the shell. When it slid out there was no yolk let so I am hopeful I didn't goof anything up. I will definitely take all your advice and not do this again. I have 24 more to go and I will just have to sit and wait for it to happen. Is it accurate to say that the rest should hatch within a week of one another?

Thank you guys really appreciate the congrats though.

No sir, that is NOT accurate to say, hahahahahahahahahaha

Its been our experience, with larger monitors(not savs in particular) that when you recieve several clutchs from one female, they hatch at all different times.

We have had some clutches hatch over seven months from the first pipping.

The closest we have is albigs and they did hatch within a week. But don't be surprised if they don't. If they look good, then they are good. SO LEAVE THEM ALONE, hahahahahahahahahahha Good luck FR

In my limited experience, my hatchlings have yet to emerge from the egg in anywhere near 12 hours from pipping. Usually, once they've pipped, I don't expect to see a hatching fully emerged for around 24 hours. Be patient. They like to sit in the egg for ages once they've slit, probably waiting for the membranes, blood vessels and umbilicus to atrophy and dry up a bit.

As for the rest of the eggs, leave them be unless they stink. As I've learned recently, they can get to looking pretty weird before they finally hatch, even it if is several weeks after the first one has hatched.
