New Greeri (?) kingsnake

moko Sep 06, 2004 08:06 AM

First, do i have the name of this kingsnake right. He is a sage green with rust colored markings edged in black. I'll post a pic when my husband shows me how. Boy, he's a beauty. He's one month old and has eated three times. I also have two corn snakes. What is the best substrate for these snakes. I have been using the alfalfa (sp) litter. Do they need a light of any kind? I do have warmers on the bottom of their cages.

Greeri is correct. They're also known as Durango Mtn. Kingsnakes, since they come from the mountainous regions of the state of Durango, Mexico. I haven't heard of anyone using alfalfa litter before. I would just suggest not using anything that contains strong oils(like pine or cedar), or anything that creates dust. I use aspen shavings.
