Temp issue

CaptainHook2 Sep 06, 2004 09:57 AM

I just put my burm in his new cage and my ball in the old cage. I have dig thermometers in both sides of each cage. The burm has an ambient temp of 86 with a bask temp of around 92. His hide box is under the tank with a temp of 79 and that's where he prefers to hang out. The ball has a bask temp of 84 and a low temp of 79 and he also prefers the cooler side. I have infrared heat emitters for ambient temps but it gets to 96 in the small cage so I don't use it. Could it be both snakes simly prefer the cooler temps? They're both more active with the temps in the mid to low 80's and just find a cool spot and sit with higher temps. What do YOU think?

I find all my snakes prefer the cool side. My hot side on most cages is around 88. Cool side 82.
And if the temps drop from there, as you mentioned they are more active. Much more so. Especially my JCP.
Maybe all that heat is myth perpetrated by the local power company?
When temps in the cages hit 80-82...its like a jungle! All my snakes begin moving more. Climbing branches, hunting.
With the higher temps, they lay around like slugs.

Mine do too...I dunno. I figured that with the cage switch, they'd spend more time over on the warm side, or on the branch...or attempting to break out...something! But, they still sit there and look at me from the inside of their hidebox like "Mom, turn the A/c on...would ya?" I find that they prefer the cool side of the cage during summer and the warm side of the cage during winter. I do find this strange since the temperature stays pretty much the same all year. Huh, picky animals.
