Apparently it IS resistable!

crtoon83 Sep 06, 2004 10:35 AM

I did the whole deli cup trick on feeding my baby bairdi (bill)...who hasnt eaten yet...I cut the head off the pinky and put it in a small deli cup (was actually one of those ziploc disposable sandwich containers) last night and well apparently the brains ARE resistable, lol. I'm going to go get a live pink from a pet store as soon as I can find one and try him on that.

I have had a good bit of luck lately with force feeing mouse tails.I took a group of ten non feeders and force fed them a mouse tail.It is really simple and not very stressful on the snake.
To my surprise, seven of the ten took a thawed pinky when offered on the next feeding.May be a good idea before your snake gets to weak.
Thanks ROB

how do you feed the mouse tails? just hold the side of the head and push it down its throat or what?

I force feed the mouse talis by gently prying open the mouth and sticking it in.Then you gently twist it while pushing. At a certain point they will usually start to swallow.
On the corns, once the tail is approx.one third of the way in,instinct will take over and they begin to swallow.

ok im gonna try this...how much nutrition do they actually get from the mouse tails? or is this just something to try and get him to eat a full pink?

There isn't much nutrition in the mouse tail, but it seems to get them to recognize the mouse as a food item.
I used it successfully on non feeders that even refused Anoles.
Good luck ROB

I use a pair of forceps and gently slide the flat part into the front part of his mouth.Once it is open,if you can get any part of the tail in his mouth he will have trouble spitting it out. Then you slowly work it down until he stars to swallow.

Yes,i use just one side of the tweezers.Ease his mouth open from the front.Much like you would see when someone milks a venomous snake.

well I shoved it about 2/3rds in his mouth/down his throat so hew ould take it...resisting all the way..put him in his cage then he crawled around for another minute or two in his cage flicking his tounge with the tail still sticking out of his mouth lol then swallowed the rest...i hope thats a good sign....

I was also just looking through the classifieds...found some CB 2004 bairdis and I was wondering what are the chances of my current male actually living? I know its a morbid thought, but I do want two approx the same age and its cheaper to get them as neonates vs yearlings or even older so...this is a question coming strictly from the financial standpoint, and the pet store said they should have some live pinks in tomorrow so i'm gonna try that also.
