Which snake?

snakesnake Sep 06, 2004 11:17 AM

I'm thinking of getting a snake but I don't know which one will be good for me.

I would like a rather smaller snake (max lenght of 2-3ft) if possible, not too expensive for care, food, etc. non venomous

I've been doing researching but still can't find the right snake for me.

Any ideas?

House snakes and rosy boas do not get very large, are easy to care for and feed, and are generally good tempered. Rosies may be a little more expensive, but they are great snakes. Take some time to research both and see if you like either.

Finding in the 2-3 foot range can be a little bit of a challange. Most of your colubrids....rats/corns/kings/milks and such will grow about 4-6 feet. You may want to consider a childrens python...they grow about 4 feet I think, however they are pretty expensive. Good luck.

I still love these snakes, and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Scarlet Kingsnakes only get to be about 24 inches. BUT...they are always hiding and don't really like to be handled. We had one and traded it for a king snake. We also recently got a baby corn, and we love it! My son's 50/50 cali king has a great personality and is always cruising in his cage. They can easily be kept in a 20 gallon tank. Most people will recommend kings and corns, as they require minimal work and are fairly hearty snakes. Kings are great eaters too. Good luck to you! Here is a picture of my son's new king.
