Question about food

chinahause Sep 06, 2004 12:09 PM

Hey all!! I was always wondering about this, but never thought to post it until now. Is it safe for a dragon to eat a mealworm after it has passed its larval stage and actually turns into a bug?

They love them, and oh boy what a crunchy sound they make

Should be no problem if he like them !

I would be careful about feeding a young bearded dragon the beetles from either mealworms or superworms. Adults shouldn't have a problem digesting the beetles but I wouldn't recommend feeding them alot of them just in case.

Mine won't eat the beetles but they really love the lara. I use a tweezers to pick them (the larva) up by the head, so their tails wiggle. My dragons go crazy for that.

They go from the Larva (worms) to Pupa (in-between stage) then to Beetles.

I feed all stages to adult & subadult dragons with no problems. I do not offer large amounts of any stage to any size dragon. They are similar to the gun issue, where some people say guns don't kill people, people kill people. Well, the mealies don't kill the dragons,, it's the owner who feeds them too many that kill the dragons. lol

I have not feed any super beetles however so I can't offer any experience advice there.
