I just got my power back on after hurricane Francis but my tanks have been at a steady 78F for over 24 hours this shouldn't effect my animals should it?
Thanks
Bill

Nope! But if the power ever goes out for an extended amount of time, it's probably better to hold off on feeding them.
Btw, I'm glad you and your geckos made it through safely.

Speaking of loss of power, what do other people do when there's lets say a blizzard (for those of us who live in the north) and your power goes out. how do you keep your geckos thriving
I live up north too so will be watching for replies. Maybe we should keep some of those hunters handwarmers on hand. I have a nice one for hunting that burns for about 6 hours but you actually light a little bar then it is closed in a case and burns slowly. That might work if you could attach it to the outside of the cage, I would worry about fumes putting it inside, or maybe I could just move the geckos into the room with the family where we will surely have either the propane or the kerosene heater running if not both. Well there are some ideas, I'll be watching for more.

I live in Quebec, we rarely lose power in a snow storm. Habitually we lose power in a thunderstorm when lightning strike, but it have happen a couple of winer ago when we had a very big ice storm. At that time i had just a collared lizard and i put him in a small shoebox over a water bag, the water was heated on a small camping burner. In these time its quite hard because its a survival question for us too.

In that case I would probably try using human hand warmers, human heat pads, hot shipping packs, or even warm bottles of water. If you have a fire place, you could use that.
Priority would go to my most temperature-sensitive animals (which would be my tarantulas) and baby geckos, but I would probably try to huddle everyone close together. My adult geckos could handle going without food for a week if the situation ever got that bad.

In the winter, your leos will probably be burmating anyway. That means they could go for weeks, maybe even a few months, without eating and not lose any weight.

I was wondering if I lost my eggs. They only got down to 79F, sure was hot and humid without the A/C running here in Florida. Anyone know how long the eggs can be below 80F without losing them?
