Pet store treatment.

JohnnyToad Sep 06, 2004 03:15 PM

As some of you may have realized by my recent posts. I am interested in owning an amphibian. A Fire Belly Toad to be exact. My wife and I went to the local pat store today to do some more research. I live in New York City, a town that is at the forefront of animal rights activism.
We went to the local pet store to see their selection and also see their tgank setup. I have read alot on this website and others about caring for these animals. Well what I saw frightened me. A water filled tank with about six amphibians. One large rock in the center of the pond. All of the frogs are laying on top of each other on the rock. There is no filter. There is no gravel. There are no plants (artificial or real). Needless to say My wife and I were appauled. Four fire belly toads, two chubby frogs and an Albino argentine frog. This is a reputable chain pet store that I refuse to name for the sake of a cheap advertisement. Well we have a tank and a filter and are really looking for examples of how to set up our tank. Maybe a website. Can anyone help?

Thank you

John

Check out the photo gallery here on kingsnake.com. There's some real great pictures there to help you get an idea. Granted, you have to see all the non-FBT enclosures as well... but I rather enjoyed it. =) I'm not sure about how to do links, so you should be able to copy and paste it into your browser bar. It'll take you right to the pictures of all the aquariums/vivariums, etc from all the people here at kingsnake.
Hope that helps. If I had a digital camera, I'd send ya a picture of mine. My FBTs love it, I love it, and I've had no problems with it at all. Good Luck!
